Dental Fillings

Poor oral hygiene and/or an acidic or sugary diet can increase your risk of tooth decay. Tooth decay is weakening of the enamel, the tooth’s outer protective layer. If the affected areas are not fortified through remineralization, they become permanently damaged in the form of a hole, called a cavity. Small cavities can usually be repaired with a simple dental filling. This process involves removing the damaged tissue, cleaning out the tooth, and filling it with a special tooth-colored substance.

Root Canal Therapy

Severe cavities that have resulted in damage to the innermost tooth layer, called the pulp, usually require root canal therapy. Root canal therapy can preserve the structure of a badly damaged tooth and prevent tooth loss. This restorative treatment eliminates any infection, removes damaged tissue, and allows you to keep your natural tooth.

Dental Crowns

A cracked, broken, or chipped tooth can result from biting on a hard food or playing a contact sport without a mouthguard. A dental crown can improve the compromised tooth’s appearance and restore the tooth’s strength and function. Crowns can also hide teeth that are severely discolored or irregularly shaped.

Dental Implants

When a tooth or several teeth are missing or beyond repair, dental implant surgery can be a permanent solution. A dental implant mimics a natural tooth’s root by fusing with the jawbone via a process called osseointegration. This creates a secure foundation for an accompanying restoration, including a dental crown, bridge, or dentures.

Dental Bridges

If a tooth is beyond repair or already lost, a dental bridge may be a good solution. A typical dental bridge consists of one crown on either side of a gap with a floating artificial tooth sandwiched between them. The bridge can also be attached to dental implants if you are missing multiple teeth.

Maintaining preventive visits with Dr. Bailey, consuming a balanced diet, brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time, flossing every day, wearing mouthguards as needed, and avoiding tobacco products are the best ways to reduce the need for dental restorations. However, if you suspect you need one of the above dental restorations, contact North River Dental Care to schedule a consultation!
