Taking care of your teeth with brushing and flossing is important, but you also need to visit the dentist every six months! Our office has a range of preventive services designed to keep your oral health in great shape. In this blog post, we discuss the types of dental problems preventive dentistry can help you avoid.

Tooth Decay

You can avoid decay with good brushing and flossing, but professional cleanings are needed, too. We also offer treatments like fluoride and dental sealants. While cavity-fighting fluoride is found in toothpaste and mouthwash, a professional fluoride treatment contains a stronger concentration. It’s applied right to your enamel (no messy trays involved) and it is quickly absorbed into the crystalline mineral structure of your teeth. Dental sealants fill in the grooves of your molars to reduce your risk of cavities. They’re a great option for both kids and adults.

Gum Disease

In its early stages, gum disease can usually be reversed with improved oral hygiene. However, you may not know you have the beginnings of gum disease until you see a dentist. If untreated, the signs and symptoms of gum disease will only get worse. It can even lead to tooth and bone loss. We offer deep cleanings and gum therapy that clean disease-causing bacteria from your gums.

Tooth Grinding

Do you clench or grind your teeth at night? You might experience tooth damage, headaches, and sore jaw muscles. Comfortable and custom-designed nightguards from our office can protect your teeth while you sleep. We also offer custom athletic mouthguards that keep your smile safe while you play sports.

Oral Cancer

During every preventive exam, Dr. Bailey checks for signs of oral cancer. If he sees anything suspicious, we’ll go over what we recommend next, which can include getting a referral to a specialist. When caught early, oral cancer is usually curable!

Why Toothbrush Age Matters

As bristles wear out, they lose their ability to clean effectively. Frayed or flattened bristles can’t reach plaque hiding near the gumline or between teeth. This can allow buildup that leads to cavities, gum inflammation, or even bad breath. Swapping your brush regularly helps keep your ...
