At North River Dental Care, our mission is to provide high-quality, affordable dental care to patients throughout the Fredericksburg area.

In this blog post, we compare PPO vs. HMO dental insurance. And for those interested in foregoing traditional dental insurance, we discuss the benefits of enrolling in our in-office dental membership plan.

Dental Insurance: PPO vs. HMO

While dental PPO plans usually have higher out-of-pocket costs than their HMO counterparts, they offer patients more flexibility in selecting dentists or dental specialists without needing a referral from your primary dentist. Some plans even offer reimbursement for out-of-network dentists. In exchange for that flexibility, you will have a higher premium and may be required to meet a deductible.

Dental HMO plans provide coverage at a lower cost that primarily focuses on preventive care. HMO plans incentivize regular dental exams and professional cleanings that can help keep your teeth and gums healthy. You’ll need to select a primary dentist and will need a referral if any specialist treatment is necessary.

Because we want everyone to have access to quality dental care, our office is proud to accept most major dental insurance plans! We file and track your claims so you don't have to. Contact us today to confirm whether or not we accept your insurance and what your benefits are!

Benefits of a Dental Membership Plan

Our dental membership plan is a great option for patients that do not have dental insurance. For a lower cost than most dental insurance plans, our North River Advantage Plan covers all your regular preventive oral healthcare expenses and provides additional savings on most other dental services we offer. Plus, there are no annual limits, deductibles, pre-authorizations, or waiting periods, and your benefits begin the same day you sign up! Is It Time to Replace Your Toothbrush? Here’s How to Tell
image of two toothbrushes, on one it is time to replace your toothbrush

Most of us reach for our toothbrushes daily without a second thought. But an old or worn brush can quietly stop doing its job—putting your teeth and gums at risk. At North River Dental Care in Fredericksburg, VA, Dr. Ryan Bailey reminds patients that staying on top of this small task makes a real difference.

Why Toothbrush Age Matters

As bristles wear out, they lose their ability to clean effectively. Frayed or flattened bristles can’t reach plaque hiding near the gumline or between teeth. This can allow buildup that leads to cavities, gum inflammation, or even bad breath. Swapping your brush regularly helps keep your ...
