Today we are fortunate to experience modern dentistry that makes our mouths healthier and more beautiful. Technology has helped take what was once a crude practice of brushing teeth with crushed up bones and using animal teeth to construct dentures to complex procedures that include realistic-looking biocompatible dental implants, professionally teeth whitening, and virtually painless root canal therapy. Here, we’ll explain some of the amazing modern dental technology that we have to improve your dental experience here at North River Dental Care

Our Laser Scanner Detects Cavities Early

At North River Dental Care, we have a laser scanner that helps us detect cavities at the very early stages. This allows us to fix them when they are only just small cavities. Therefore, your trips to the dentist’s office become a lot less stressful, not to mention more comfortable and affordable, down the line. This laser scanner is also incredible because it means that you will be able to keep more of your original tooth.

Our Digital X-Rays Reduce Radiation Exposure

Instead of traditional film X-rays, we only use digital dental X-rays at our office. This technology utilizes a digital sensor that immediately captures an image and sends it directly to our computer. This method utilizes 75% less radiation, but its speed also means that you will spend much less time being exposed to X-rays. So not only is your radiation exposure very minimal, but these digital X-rays are also more eco-friendly, as they help us cut out chemical waste that would be harmful for the environment.

Our Intra-Oral Camera Improves Patient Education

Our intra-oral camera allows our patients to see inside their mouth in real time right along with us. This miniature camera shows you a detailed picture of the inside of your mouth so you have the opportunity to see exactly what we see throughout your examination.

Xylitol Products Help Prevent Decay

Xylitol is a sugar-free, naturally-derived sweetener that combats tooth decay. It can be found in chewing gum, toothpaste, mouthwash, and sugarless candy. This substance reduces the risk of cavities because it helps your mouth produce saliva, which washes away the acids, starches, and sugars that are left in your mouth after you’ve eaten. We offer our patients many products that include xylitol because the cavity-prevention results are fantastic.

image of two toothbrushes, on one it is time to replace your toothbrush

Most of us reach for our toothbrushes daily without a second thought. But an old or worn brush can quietly stop doing its job—putting your teeth and gums at risk. At North River Dental Care in Fredericksburg, VA, Dr. Ryan Bailey reminds patients that staying on top of this small task makes a real difference.

Why Toothbrush Age Matters

As bristles wear out, they lose their ability to clean effectively. Frayed or flattened bristles can’t reach plaque hiding near the gumline or between teeth. This can allow buildup that leads to cavities, gum inflammation, or even bad breath. Swapping your brush regularly helps keep your ...
